A CONTROVERSIAL plan to build a valet car wash in Morrisons car park has been approved at the third time of asking.

Proposals to install a car washing facility with a canopy and portable building within the car park of Morrisons, in Worting Road, had twice been rejected by Basingstoke and Deane borough councillors.

The applications had previously been rejected on the grounds that the plans had “insufficient information”

However, with a number of amendments to the original application, councillors at a Development Control Committee meeting on Wednesday last week took the decision to give the development the green light.

In a planning statement, CHQ Architects said the installation of the car wash would provide an additional service to the supermarket’s customers.

The new car wash will be situated towards the rear of the supermarket, close to King George V Playing Field.
