FRUSTRATIONS have been building for a man in Buckskin after his bins were left uncollected for four weeks.

Binu Purushothaman, who lives in Wiltshire Crescent, noticed that his waste bin had not been collected since the week commencing April 22 after it began to pile up.

The house’s waste began to sit in the road, as Binu made several calls to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to rectify the problem and it took until last week for the bins to be collected.

Binu said: “It took them four weeks to sort out the problem, and it was very frustrating, as they just didn’t collect anything at all.

“I wasn’t sure that they would be coming, as it seemed to be affecting others in the road as well and it got worse over the course of the weeks.

“I made repeated calls to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and nothing happened. So far, they haven’t even given me a reason for why there was no collection.

“While it has been collected now, it is unacceptable that it took them that long, I am very relieved that it has been taken away.”

Binu added: “The council kept saying that next week they would come and collect it, but each time, it didn’t happen.

“If it is one week, then it is not too bad. Two weeks, it gets worse and three weeks is terrible.”

He said: “It was not ideal for anyone, as others in my road had the same problem.

“I’ve got no idea why this happened, but I am relieved that it is gone.”

Cabinet member for environment and enforcement at the borough council, Councillor Hayley Eachus, said: “There are a number of reasons why bin collections may not be made, including bins not being presented by 7am on collection days or the presence of items that should not be placed in household waste bins such as recyclables.

“On the rare occasions that bins are wrongly missed by crews we

encourage residents to check our website, where we list incomplete bin collection rounds and estimated collection dates basingstoke.gov.uk/service-updates.”

“If an address is not listed on our website, we encourage residents to report their missed collection by phone 01256 844844 or by email at customer.service@basingstoke.gov.uk.

“We will always endeavour to return to collect any missed bins within two working days.”
