COUNCILLORS are set to discuss plans they hope will ensure Basingstoke is a vibrant hub for the future.

A town centre programme was launched in 2013 to support businesses and improve visitor experiences.

This saw the introduction of a number of initiatives including an events programme, the IncuHive enterprise space and a grant scheme for the Top of The Town.

Today (July 4), councillors on Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Economic, Planning and Housing Committee will discuss proposals to develop a long-term strategy including the town centre, Basing View, the area around the railway station, town centre parks, Fairfields conservation area and Basingstoke Leisure Park.

Cabinet member for regeneration and property, Councillor John Izett said: “The town centre is at the heart of our borough and it is important that we work closely with our partners to ensure it remains vibrant in the future.

“Our town centre has so much to offer and is performing well but high streets across the country are having to contend with massive challenges such as the rise in internet shopping.

“It is right that we plan for the future to enhance the offer and accessibility of the town centre as a great place to shop, work, live, dine and play for our residents and visitors.”
