AS THE Conservative leadership race nears its conclusion, north west Hampshire MP Kit Malthouse recently met with Boris Johnson to show his backing.
The pair worked closely during Mr Johnson’s stint as mayor of London when Mr Malthouse was deputy for policing.
During the meeting Mr Malthouse presented the Conservative frontrunner with a copy of the Gazette, highlighting the excellent work done by volunteers and fundraisers during Ark Day.
The north west Hampshire MP said he believed the candidate would deliver Brexit.
Mr Malthouse said: “We both voted to leave the EU and I know he will deliver our departure by the end of October.”
The picture comes as today Mr Johnson has pledged to end "unfair" prosecutions of Army veterans who served in Northern Ireland.
The leadership contender has joined rival Jeremy Hunt in backing a public campaign supporting soldiers who served during the Troubles.
Many Conservative MPs have called for such a move in recent months.
Mr Johnson also reportedly promised on Thursday to appoint a veterans minister if he is chosen to lead the Conservative Party.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he said: "We need to end unfair trials of people who served their Queen and country when no new evidence has been produced and when the accusations have already been exhaustively questioned in court.
"We must protect people against unfair prosecutions. And I will.
"I totally support the principle of cross-government work to secure world-class care and support for veterans."
