THERE was cause for double celebration for Howard Park Bowling Club on Saturday.

The South Ham club welcomed members and the mayor of Basingstoke and Deane to the facility to make to official reopening of the club following a £180,000 redevelopment.

As week as opening the new club house, the club was celebrating five decades or playing the support in Russell Howard Park.

To mark the occasion there was a short match played between the president of the bowls club Dennis Barber and club chairman Alan Tait.

The redevelopment of the site includes a new pitched roof, wall insulation and double glazing and a new layout inside the clubhouse to create a larger lounge and social area.

With the building now complete the club will be able to play short mat bowls starting in late September and continuing throughout the winter.
