A LAVERSTOKE man will be driving an old car around a race track this weekend.

The little, old car in question is the Ferrari Jody Scheckter drove after he was crowned champion of Formula 1 in 1978.

The owner of Laverstoke Park Farm will be driving around the world-famous Monza circuit before Saturday's qualifying race and Sunday's race to celebrate 40 years since his won the Drivers Championship for Ferrari.

And he will even be wearing the same overalls, too. Jody has managed to dig out the same original outfits he donned for that fareful day, four decades ago.

His wife Clare said: “Not many people can fit into their outfits from their 20s!

“We very much hope you can watch and cheer on the old guy from the comfort of your sofa and keep your fingers crossed that the lack of wet tyres does not mean he comes off on the first lap.”

But despite being away in Italy, he won't be forgetting his Laverstoke ties.

There will be footage from the recent CarFest event, held over August bank holiday weekend, which saw 20,000 people descend onto Jody's farm for music, cars and cookery demonstrations.

The Qualifying pre-show gets underway from 1pm on Saturday on Sky Sports F1, whilst the build-up to the race will begin at 12.30pm on Sunday.
