MAGISTRATES have fined a man after he stole alcohol and assaulted a police officer.
Declan Martin Westwell appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on September 3 pleaded guilty to one count of theft and one count of assaulting an emergency worker.
The court heard how the 24-year-old stole two bottles of Henry Westons cider from the Co-op store in Greenlands Road, Rooksdown on August 19.
When the police were called to the incident the Lefroy Avenue resident assaulted the officer by beating.
Westwell also pleaded guilty to using threating and abusive words to another person causing them to feel distressed on the same date.
The Magistrates fined the 24-year-old £140 and ordered him to pay £34.18 in compensation, £32 victim surcharge and £20 costs.
