PLANS are being put forward to construct a new building for flats in Tadley.

The application which has been submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council seeks to demolish two bungalows in Silchester Road, in favour of a new block which would house seven two-bedroom flats.

As well as the new block of flats, the applicant is looking to construct a separate building which will be made up of two semi-detached properties.

The applicant has stated that the current proposal for a new Lidl score – which is on land opposite this proposed site – would bring more jobs to the area, therefore people will be looking for accommodation.

In the planning design statement submitted to the borough council it read: “Opposite the site, there is an application currently pending with West Berkshire Council for the erection of a Class A1 foodstore.

“That development will bring more employment to the area and therefore the demand for residential accommodation will increase once again.”

The applicant added that the addition of the new accommodation would replace the current “worn out” bungalows with a higher standard property.

The design statement continued: “Each of these would be built to the new exacting standards set by building control and would be more robust as new housing stock provide an almost ideal context for sheltering.

“There are very few properties to rent in the Tadley area and we would like to state that although these would be classified as market housing, they would be for rent.

“The key aspect of sustainable development is to create better places to live and this proposal meets this requirement.”
