GENEROUS shoppers are being encouraged to think of vulnerable people when they visit a Basingstoke supermarket.

Morrisons store in Worting Road, has introduced a collection point for the Spotlight Centres ever growing food bank.

Spotlight help numerous families every week who are struggling financially, as well helping other local, vulnerable people in their times of need.

The box is located by the self-serve tills and items welcome include long life milk, pasta, canned products such as fruit and veg, tinned meat and jars of sauces. Please be mindful that perishables aren’t suitable.

Gary Riley, trustees of Spotlight, said: “We are so grateful to Morrisons for setting up a food collection point for our Food Bank. We are receiving more and more requests for parcels from local schools, social services, and other professionals which is very sad but we are glad we can make a difference.”

Michelle Leary, Morrisons Basingstoke community champions added: “We are very excited to have this in store. I have worked with the Spotlight Centre a number of times and I am always amazed at everything they do. Morrisons customers are always extremely generous and kind during charity events, so I’m optimistic this will be a success.”
