FOUR fire crews were called out to a gas leak in Oakridge overnight.

Three engines from Basingstoke as well as a specialist unit attended were called out at around 1.30am (Saturday, December 14) by police after engineers were concerned over high readings.

The fire brigade say the leak was caused by a gas leak on the main pipe into the premises.

There was nobody in the building at the time, with the fire brigade making the scene safe before handing the scene over to Southern Gas Networks.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue service said: "We had a call at 1.31am, it came in from the police. 

"It was a gas leak and there was gas engineers on site and they were concerned about high readings. Three engines from Basingstoke attended and a specialist unit. The stop message came in at 5.09am.

"We made the scene safe and handed it over to Southern Gas Networks. Nobody was in the property overnight."
