A WITNESS has described the moment firefighters evacuated her building after a fire.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue service sent 30 firefighters to Skyline Plaza, in Alencon Link, after receiving reports that there was a fire on the second floor.

Kathleen Flood, who witnessed the fire, was looking out of a window when four fire engines arrived on scene.

She said that after going downstairs to see what was going on, she saw a number of fire engines dotted across the car park, the nursery next door and the main road.

"They were getting the hose out when I got down there at 6pm.

"I then went into my friend's flat on the ground floor. They broke into the air vent to get the hose up it.

"They blocked the building off, nobody could get in or out, and they evacuated the second floor."

Six fire engines and special appliances from Basingstoke, Overton, Tadley, Hartley Wintney and Odiham attended the blaze, which was called in at 5.51pm.

Firefighters used two breathing apparatuses and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
