POLICE have confirmed that an earlier incident which left a stretch of motorway closed has been "safely resolved".

The M27 westbound, between Junction 4 and Junction 3, had previously been closed due to a “concern for welfare call on the bridge over the motorway”.

Junction 14 of the M3 southbound, where the motorway joins the M27, was also shut, but officers have confirmed that all closures are now being lifted.

However heavy delays remain in the area, with 80 minutes delays being reported.

Also, a crash on the M3 southbound, between Junction 11 for Winchester South and Junction 12 for Eastleigh, is causing further disruption.

Highways England have reported congestion for up to 4.5 miles stretching back to Winchester, which is expected to add 45 minutes to usual travel times.
