THE GOVERNANCE scheme for a controversial garden village development has been approved.
As previously reported in the Gazette, Hart District Council are exploring plans that, if approved, would see 5,000 new houses built in a new village at Winchfield, a number which could double should developers see fit.
At a meeting of the council’s cabinet last week, members unanimously approved the proposed governance structure.
It will consist of a board, two forums and a project team.
The Shapley Heath Garden Community Opportunity Board will lead the evaluation of the opportunity, according to council papers.
It will be chaired by Councillor Graham Cockarill, who is cabinet member for Place, whilst cabinet member for Community, Cllr Stuart Bailey and the group leaders in the council will also sit on the board.
A strategic lead for Hampshire County Council, as well as ward councillors representing Hartley Wintney and Hook, alongside representatives from M3 Local Enterprise Partnership, Homes England and the Landowner and Stakeholder forums.
The forums will see the communities and people who own land in the area be able to engage with the project team, whilst the project team will be made up of professionals and led by the Joint Chief Executive.
The project team and forums will report back to the board, which will in turn report to the cabinet.
