ELECTRICITY in Basingstoke has been restored after over a thousand properties were affected by a power cut this lunch time.
Around 1,300 properties in the Chineham and Oakridge areas of the town were affected after what Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSENs) called an "underground cable fault".
Engineers acted quickly to restore power to 650 properties inside ten minutes, and the rest of the network was connected by just after 1.30pm.
A spokesperson for SSEN said: “We’d like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience as our engineers worked to restore power as quickly as possible.”
Residents in Chineham and Oakridge have taken to social media to complain about the cut, which had closed all shops in Chineham Shopping Centre.
The petrol station at Tesco was also coned off.
Reports first started coming in at around 12.15pm, with Facebook users complaining on social media.
Residents said that Chineham, as well as the Norn Hill area of Oakridge were affected.
