A BASINGSTOKE pub which was without water remained open to serve drinks despite having nowhere for customers and staff to wash their hands after using the toilets.

The Angel, a Wetherspoon pub in Festival Place, posted signs up on its doors today informing customers: "Due to a loss of water the kitchen is currently closed until further notice. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused."

However, the pub stayed open to serve alcoholic and soft drinks.

The toilets were still open for use, despite there being no running water for customers to wash their hands, and no signs up informing them that the water in the toilets was not working.

In fact, the pub instead had signs encouraging customers to wash their hands after using the facilities.

The nearest public hand-washing facilities to The Angel are inside Festival Place.

The World Health Organisation is currently advising the public to wash hands frequently to help stop the spread of Coronavirus, either using soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub.

Chris, from The Angel, said the water is now back on in the pub, but did not comment on the lack of hand-washing facilities.

He was unable to say how long the venue had been without water, or why.

He referred the Gazette to Wetherspoon’s public relations department, which has not yet responded to a request for a comment.
