Life has changed a lot over the last month as the country acclimatises to lockdown measures.

Across Basingstoke, the vast majority of restaurants and cafes have closed.

However, if you are missing your cheeky takeaway fix - there is some good news.

While Boris Johnson ordered all pubs, restaurants, cinemas, theatres and other sit-in venues to close their doors, restaurants and cafes were told they could remain open and continue to offer takeaway food and drink.

And there are a number of independent businesses and delivery services that are still available in Basingstoke. 

Takeaways, such as Deliveroo, UberEats and JustEat, will continue delivering food to people told to stay at home.

This is in accordance with the government's advice: "On 23 March the Government, stepped up measures to prevent the spread of  coronavirus and save lives. All non-essential premises must now close.

"Takeaway and delivery services may remain open and operational in line with guidance on Friday 20 March.

"Online retail is still open and encouraged and postal and delivery service will run as normal."

Oliver's 

The famous fish and chip shop in Old Basing is remaining open - strictly as a takeaway outlet. They are operating a non-contact delivery and collection service. 

The chippie also offers a delivery service for those who are vulnerable or in self-isolation.

The bad news is, they aren't open again until Wednesday. But at least it's something to look forward to.

"We will prepare your order and you can pay & collect in a non-contact way. We also operate a delivery service to Old Basing and Lychpit for those who are vulnerable or self-isolating, currently booking slots every hour on the hour.

The Lime Leaf

The popular Thai restaurant in London Street remains open for business for takeaways only.

The Lime Leaf is open from 5pm seven days and week and is available for orderes on Just Eat and Deliveroo. 

NHS staff are currently receiving 20 per cent discount with a few bag of prawn crackers. 

Restaurant owner Tanya Sangthong has written the following message on their website: "Our takeaway service remain open as usual and we have taken a number of additional steps to ensure that you can continue to enjoy our food and our employees continue to feel safe and looked after at work."

The Turkish restaurant which offers a variety of options from kebabs to burgers and pizzas is open seven days a week.

It is open daily from 5pm until 11pm and is available on food delivering sites such as Just Eat and Deliveroo.

If you're craving a pizza, Papa John's in Basingstoke remains open.

The American/ Italian takeaway is one of few national chains that hasn't closed up shop.
