A BAND of heavy snow is heading towards Basingstoke tomorrow as the Met Office issue warnings.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning with wintry showers set to fall across the region tomorrow.

The warning comes into force from 3am, January 16 and lasts until 8pm that evening.

The Met Office stated places such as the South Downs could will see ‘notable accumulations’ whilst Basingstoke could see between 2-5cm of snow.

The Met Office warning says: " A band of heavy snow may bring disruption as it moves eastwards on Saturday."

What to expect:

•  Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel

•  Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers

•  Some rural communities could become cut off

•  Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected

A yellow warning means that the weather will cause "some low level impacts, including some disruption to travel in a few places".

"Many people may be able to continue with their daily routine, but there will be some that will be directly impacted and so it is important to assess if you could be affected."

It comes after heavy snow fall was reported in Northern parts of the UK with West Yorkshire recording 11cm of snow today.
