A NEW report has finally revealed how much the city council spent on a new park and ride site earlier this year.
The document, which went before councillors at Winchester City Council's overview and scrutiny earlier this week, revealed civic chiefs shelled out £1.6million to buy Coventry House, also known as the Vaultex site.
It will be demolished to enlarge the car park.
As previously reported, the city council bought the land in Barfield Close in April using funds from the £30million Strategic Asset Purchase Scheme (SAPS) budget.
The Chronicle asked the city council at the time how much civic chiefs spent, but a spokesman declined to give an amount, saying: "The council does not wish to comment on commercially sensitive negotiations."
Other SAPS spending included £600,000 on Winchester Sports and Leisure Centre at Bar End and £300,000 for disabled facilities grants.
The Vaultex building was a store where cash for ATMs was kept for use in banks across the area.
