Totton-based logistics firm Europa Road has welcomed its first school leaver, whose initiative impressed the regional manager.

Joe Tuck, 18, from Southampton has joined the branch in the New Forest Enterprise Centre at Rushington Business Park.

Joe was inspired by his family roots when he started looking for jobs after leaving sixth form – Joe’s dad and grandad both previously worked in sea freight – so when he started thinking about his future, he and his dad got to work putting together a list of Southampton companies he could approach.

When Joe walked into Europa’s office looking for work the company’s southern regional manager, Tom Jenkins, was also visiting.

Impressed by Joe’s initiative, Tom and branch manager John Moy arranged an on-the-spot interview and invited him back for work experience over the summer before offering him the position of sales operator.

Joe said: “I’m really enjoying my role at Europa. The company feels like a big family and everyone is very helpful and welcoming. I’m particularly interested in learning about international trade and I’m looking forward to getting out and about and meeting customers in the future.”

Branch Manager John Moy said: “We’re delighted to welcome Joe into our team. I’m sure he will thrive with us and quickly progress up the career ladder to account manager next year. It can be difficult finding people with the right skills needed to succeed in the logistics industry and this is a brilliant way to bring in young people and train them to a high standard.”
