A LEADING marina has won approval for a pavilion building that will house boat sales and marine businesses.

Swanwick Marina, on the River Hamble, is also set to benefit from a new food, drink and facilities building which will overlook the water.

The planning application approved by Fareham Borough Council also includes a new bridgehead entrance structure, more car parking and trolley storage.

These new landside developments follow the recent completion of Swanwick’s new floating marina, a £4million investment by the site’s owner Premier Marinas.

The new floating marina offers 333 berths ranging from six metres to 40m, an increase of 59 on the old configuration.

All Swanwick berth holders now benefit from a berth measuring at least the length of their boat.

Premier Swanwick says this, coupled with fairway and pontoon specifications that exceed industry standards, will make berthing easier and safer – particularly for power boat owners who can now step directly onto their pontoon from the back of their boat.

In the centre section, berths are set 70cm above water the water – 20cm above standard industry height – to reduce the height that sailing boat customers have to jump when berthing.

Graham Bristowe, general manager at Swanwick Marina, said: “In these most testing times, this is great news for Swanwick Marina.

“We know that our tenants and berth holders alike will be happy to see the continued investment on their site.”

Premier Marinas operates nine of the UK’s top marinas, all on the south coast, including Gosport, Port Solent and Southsea. The nine sites have more than 5,000 berths in total.

The business is owned by the Wellcome Trust, a global charitable foundation that exists to improve health for everyone.

Wellcome has a diversified investment portfolio and says it has a long-term approach to investment.

It aims to spend around £1 billion a year supporting scientists and researchers in biomedicine, the humanities and the social sciences, as well as on public engagement and education in these fields.
