Now football legend Harry Redknapp has been announced as an ambassador for a group of Land Rover dealerships in Hampshire and Dorset.

Mr Redknapp has been signed by Hendy, which recently bought a Jaguar Land Rover dealership in Southampton to stand alongside showrooms in Salisbury and Christchurch.

The 73-year-old manager turned pundit has been in charge of Southampton FC, Portsmouth and AFC Bournemouth, as well as the likes of West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur. He won TV’s I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here in 2018.

He said: “I’ve always been a fan of the Land Rover brand and Hendy is a well-established and respected name in the industry. I’m really excited to get started as its new ambassador.”

Jaguar Land Rover Southampton bought by Hendy Group for £4.3m

Paul Hendy, chief executive of Hendy, said the former soccer manager’s popularity, his interest in cars and his proximity to the group’s Jaguar Land Rover dealership in Dorset all made him an obvious choice for the role.

He said: “We’re thrilled to have Harry on board as our Land Rover ambassador and the timing is perfect with the recent addition of the JLR dealership in Hampshire to our expanding portfolio.

“Harry is such a well-loved person with such a great footballing pedigree and is one of the area’s most well-known celebrities. We are really looking forward to working closely with Harry and collaborating on a number of projects.”

Hendy Group bought the Jaguar Land Rover dealership in Wide Lane, Southampton, last year from Inchcape UK for £4.3million.

Mr Redknapp will be involved in a range of activities for Hendy, virtually at first and in person at events once Covid restrictions are lifted.

The Poole resident came in for a ribbing from fellow pundits on Sky Sports earlier this week after being late to discuss the latest signings.

He was still on the motorway as host Jim White started the final countdown to the end of the transfer window, having been held up on the M3 and taken three and a quarter hours to reach west London.
