DOZENS of shoppers in Winchester had the chance to do a runner – and turned it down yesterday.
The Tesco superstore fire alarm went off and the store was evacuated at about 11am.
Several shoppers took their trolleys containing unpaid goods outside the store at Winnall.
One shopper Sarah Sibley, 30, freelance journalist, of Winnall, said: “People could easily have walked off. I saw one woman with three boxes of beer, but she went back in to pay.”
A Tesco spokesman said: "Due to a small technical fault the store was closed for a very short period of time. The store is now open and trading normally."
