MORE than £5,000 was raised at a charity evening featuring Ann Widdecombe and Alastair Stewart.

The newsreader interviewed the former politician about her career in Westminster and also in television.

The event took place at the Theatre Royal in Winchester on Monday evening (April 16).

Before the household names took to the stage, there was a reception held in the theatre atrium.

The venue’s director, Mark Courtice, was on hand to welcome the guests. They included the mayor and mayoress of Winchester, Cllr Barry and Christine Lipscomb.

The evening’s entertainment also included a performance by the Wessex Boys, a duo from Wessex Dance Academy.

The event was organised by Winchester Rotary Club and is thought to have raised more than £5,000. It includes around £650 collected in buckets as guests left the venue.

Several good causes will benefit, including the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Some cash will also be used to buy Rotary Club ‘shelter boxes’, which provide essential supplies to victims in disaster areas.
