VILLAGERS near Winchester have expressed opposition to a proposed waste plant near their homes.

Some 60 people attended the annual parish assembly last night at Micheldever Station and unanimously opposed the proposal for the rail sidings.

Clean Power Properties and Network Rail wants to build an advanced 'conversion technology and anaerobic digestion' waste facility with four chimneys up to 100-feet high.

The parish assembly called for an open meeting between residents and county council officers to discuss the issue.

The facility would process household, commercial and industrial waste, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The railway sidings are a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation.
