WINCHESTER city centre has been given a spring clean by the council’s Neighbourhood Services and Special Maintenance teams.

Abandoned road signs and cones, shopping trolleys, sacks of waste were amongst the items picked from city streets and North Walls.

Winchester City Council Portfolio Holder for Environment, Cllr Jan Warwick said: "It is so important that the city is kept looking at its best.

"We will continue to work hard to ensure that Winchester continues to be a clean and pleasant place for residents, businesses and visitors."

It comes after Winchester High Street was also given a spruce-up, which was funded by the city council and Winchester Business Improvement District.

The council will also be supporting The Great British Spring Clean between March 22 and April 23.

Along with its street care contractors, the council will be assisting local parishes and litter picking groups in the district by providing free high-visibility jackets, litter picks and black bags, which they will collect after the event.
