CHILDREN and young people at a Sutton Scotney hospice where treated to a magical visit and a special rendition of this year’s panto.

Stars of Dick Whittington at the Theatre Royal Winchester said a festive hello to those at Naomi House & Jacksplace.

They arrived dressed in full costumes and entertained everyone with interactive Christmas songs, while children, nurses and carers joined in with a variety of instruments.

The cast members who made the trip from the local theatre included Fairy Bow Bells, Whittington's Cat and Alderman. Together they sang classic Christmas songs, told children and young adults all about their show and showed everybody how to use a magic fairy wand.

During the visit they introduced themselves to the children and young people there, and told them about the story of Dick Whittington – a man who seeks his fame and fortune in a London ravaged by the sinister King Rat.

Head of marketing at Naomi House & Jacksplace, Keith Wilson said: “Christmas time at Naomi House & Jacksplace is always a magical time and we try and plan lots of festive activities for the children, young adults and their families to enjoy during their stay. The cast from Dick Whittington were absolutely fantastic, generous with their time and made lots of short lives sparkle this Christmas. We hope to see them again next year!”

After, the cast had photos with youngsters, and Jessie Angell who plays the cat, Libby Gore (Fairy Bow Bells) and Alderman Jon Bonner expressed what an honour it had been to be asked to go and meet everyone at the hospice, and to witness the extraordinary work that the staff team does there. They hope they brought some joy to the hospice.

And Kirstie Mathieson, marketing and communications director at play to the crowd, added: “There were a lot of smiles and laughter. It was a great privilege to go to the hospice to meet everyone there, and to witness the quite extraordinary work that the staff do too. We hope that our cast members' visit brought some sparkle and joy during the festive season; and we hope to visit again sometime soon.”
