THE muddy path leading to Winchester's newest school is set to be resurfaced – but the county council does not know when.

Cllr Rob Humby told the Chronicle that the Ridgeway, used by Barton Farm Academy pupils, is not the council's responsibility.

Instead it will be improved by the developers at Kings Barton – CALA Homes.

“I understand that some parents have concerns about the route to the new Barton Farm primary school, which is at the northern part of the development, for the small number of families currently coming from the southern end via a path," said Cllr Humby.

"While we understand the housing developers will be putting in internal walking and cycling paths to link the two parts of the development, the timing of this, along with the timing of each of the housing phases, is the decision of the developers.

"We are asking them to provide a temporary pedestrian link in the meantime, and our highways teams will be clearing overgrown vegetation on the Andover Road footway as soon as possible.

“We are looking at priorities for a number of suggested travel and transport improvements for the local area which could be funded by the developers’ contributions, payments for which are being staggered in line with the phasing of the development.”

The Chronicle has contacted CALA for a comment and awaits a response.
