BLACKFIELD & Langley’s maiden FA Trophy voyage is over as they ran aground 1-0 at Yate Town yesterday.

Glenn Howes' Watersiders never really got going after arriving late due to the closure of the M4.

“It was bizarre,” said co-assistant boss Chris Farrell.

“The motorway was shut both ways and the boys were out playing two-touch football next to the (Newport County-bound) Stevenage team coach!

"We didn’t get to Yate until about twenty to three and kick-off was put back to 3.30pm. Yate and the officials were superb.

“But it was a strange game. It had no intensity to it and no atmosphere. Everyone was really subdued.”

Yate, who hit the woodwork three times, settled matters in the 54th minute when Ollie Mehew sank a penalty awarded for a foul by Sam Poole.

Two minutes later Blackfield suffered another setback when Charlie Urry – just on as sub – was shown a straight red card for a clash on the halfway line.

“Bizarrely we played better with ten, got at them and had a couple of good chances,” said Farrell.

“But we’ve set a bit of a trend now, going out of both the FA Cup and FA Trophy 1-0 with ten men.”
