It is likely that Saints will have to wait until next season to play in Tottenham’s new stadium.
The Times reported this morning that Spurs have until Thursday to tell The FA whether they will need Wembley for the fixtures against Chelsea and Southampton.
And given that Tottenham will need to host two test events at the new ground before getting their safety certificate, it is unlikely it will be ready in time for Saints’ visit.
Spurs had planned to play an academy match and against Bayern Munich Legends in the summer when they thought the stadium would be ready for the Liverpool game in September.
The Burnley fixture on Saturday, 15 December, was earmarked as the first Premier League fixture to be played at the new ground but Sky didn’t choose it as a game they would be showing live.
