How Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is keeping in contact with his squad

The Daily Echo is led to believe that the duo have now sent three messages to the squad who are currently training at home.

Hasenhuttl has been unable to coach his players on a day-to-day basis since Tuesday, 17 March after advising them to no longer report for duty amid the coronavirus crisis.

Semmens, the club’s chief executive, is in regular dialogue with the Austrian who has so far remained in Southampton instead of returning home to his family in Germany.

It’s understood the video messages are informing the players of the latest developments as and when they happen.

They are also keeping them updated with what they are learning in terms of the latest facts surrounding Covid-19.

As well as giving them information, there are reminders for the players to remain professional during their time away from Staplewood.

Hasenhuttl is said to be frustrated about not being able to coach his first-team squad as normal but is also very much aware that the health and safety of everyone during this pandemic carries the greatest weight.

Saints’ players are preparing themselves to return to Staplewood on April 13, with professional football’s postponement ending on April 30.

However, with the UK now in lockdown, it’s looking likely that the national game will again be suspended.

The Premier League have given themselves plenty of time to work out ways they are able to complete the season.

One theory is that all the remaining games take place in empty stadiums but that would still require emergency services to be present.

And the UK’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has stopped any events that are relying on public services at this crucial time.

West Ham’s vice-chairman Karren Brady caused controversy when she called for the season to be declared “null and void” when writing in The Sun.

Brady has since backtracked on that statement, with other clubs waiting for an official announcement before commenting on speculation.
