Skipper Tom Berzins starred with bat and ball as Sparsholt ended life in Southern Premier League Division 2 on a positive note, beating promoted Old Tauntonians & Romsey by ten runs to chalk up a second consecutive win.

He followed up his 81 with a four-wicket spell which left OTs adrift at 167 all out in response to Sparsholt's 177-7 at the Norman Edwards Ground.

The all-round performance earned Berzins the Round 18 Cricketer of the Week award.

Berzins underpinned the Sparsholt total - increasing his season's SPL2 run aggregate to 480 (second behind Harry Tulk) - and enjoyed a half-century start with Will Berrill (24).

At 152-4 and having struck a six and eight fours, he became left-armer Matt Bampton's 29th victim of the season, enough for Romsey's King of Spin to retain his title.

Will Robbins (23* and Tom Ley (17) nipped in with some late runs before Hakim Peruzi (3-24) closed the Sparsholt innings.

Losing 354-run opener Joe Vaughan for a fourth ball duck didn't give OTR the best start, but Charlie King (25) and Hampshire t20 specialist Chris Wood (40) consolidated their position - until the pair were removed (at 72-1) in quick succession.  King was bamboozled by the hostile Rae Lockyer's pace and guide and Wood the first of three victims for Joel Eastwood.

Harry Tulk (31) got things back on track before OTR fell from 98-3 to 137-8, Berzins and Eastwood doing the damage.  Ninth-wicket pair Tom George and Bampton rallied, but the visitors could only manage 167.
