Hampshire Seniors raised over £2,000 from a three-mile walk around West End to help raise money for The Bob Willis Fund for research into prostate cancer treatment.
Walks are being done by many of the UK’s Seniors Clubs and, in Hampshire's case, culminated in a circuit of the Ageas Bowl at lunchtime during the second day of the final County Championship match of the season against title winners Surrey. The walkers were warmly received by a larger than normal crowd.
Former England fast bowler Bob Willis died from prostate cancer in December 2019 at the age of 70 years.
He is best remembered for his heroic performance in the 1981 Ashes series, when he took eight wickets for 43 runs to help England win the third Test at Headingley.
He played 90 Tests and 64 ODIs for England, taking 325 and 80 wickets respectively.
He was also a respected commentator and pundit for Sky Sports after his retirement.
