Winchester 1st XI 6, Trojans 2nd XI 3

Winchester fought back from a half time deficit to storm past their rivals in this local derby thanks to Ben Hibberd and Kieran Mallow hat-tricks.

The home team started by far the stronger, with Tom Talks creating havoc down the right channel and eventually setting up Keiran Malloy for his first after drawing the keeper, leaving Malloy with the easiest of finishes. Great credit to Trojans who pulled the momentum back their way and drew level through James Roe after a sustained period of pressure. Malloy was on hand to convert Ben Hibberd's pass to retake the lead but Trojans best period of the game continued with former Winchester player Tim Bailey converting a penalty corner and then Seth Pickering slamming home a sensational tennis-like overhead smash from a high bouncing ball to take a half time 3-2 lead.

Hibberd scored his first three minutes into the second period with a direct penalty corner strike and one minute later they took a 4-3 lead as Malloy completed his hattrick with a brilliant loop over the keeper after creating space in the "D" via a wonderful piece of close-control skill. Winchester's fifth came from a smart interchange between Hibberd and Rob Richie within the "D" at a penalty corner with the former forcing home. The final goal, and Hibberd's own hattrick, came from as a great move down the right channel involving the exciting emergent talent of Rory Jack and culminating with a Malloy wriggle along the byline to set up Hibberd who twisted gymnastically to slide past the keeper.

Winchester keeper Callum Johnstone's busiest period came towards the end of the game as Trojans tried to find a way back and the game finished with a fantastic tip over the bar.
