Winchester City Swimming Club (WCSC) hosted two Olympians last weekend at its annual awards presentation at the Holiday Inn Hotel.

Winchester swimmer, Julia Beckett, who competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Jacob Peters, a current member of Team GB who made his debut at the Tokyo Games, handed out awards to the young WCSC athletes.

Speaking during the event, Grant Robins, WCSC CEO said: “We are so grateful to Julia and Jacob for joining us tonight and providing such inspiration and motivation for the swimmers of Winchester.”

“WCSC is a community charity and thanks to our amazing team of teachers and coaches, we are so proud to be able to offer a full aquatic pathway from learn to swim though competitive squads to masters - for the people of Winchester”.

Head of lessons, James Swatton, added: “We are looking for the Olympians of the future!  As the only not-for-profit lessons provider in Winchester, we are able to offer affordable lessons for all!  Our first goal is water safety and confidence.  Swimming lessons are such a great way for children to build fitness and resilience whilst having fun in the water.  In the year of the Paris Olympics, maybe we’ll have a future Winchester Olympian starting their swimming journey with us!”

To celebrate Olympic year, WCSC will offer a free first lesson to anyone signing up by February 29.  Email: lessonsadmin@wcpsc.org.uk for more information.
