On Sunday January 21, 80-year-old David Chillingworth of the Halterworth Harriers triumphed in the local five mile race around Broadlands organised by the Challenging Events Team.

The race is well known as a flat fast course which take place around the beautiful Broadland estates but the three lapped route can be mentally challenging to some. David started the race steady taking in the glorious sights and maintaining an even pace throughout the race. He was rewarded with an overall chip time of 54.38 and first in the V80 men's category and received a carved wooden trophy.

He said he was very pleased with his time and although the cold weather of recent days had passed, it had been replaced with more windy conditions which proved quite challenging on certain parts of the course.

He said the camaraderie from the other runners and the support of the Halterworth Harriers definitely contributed to his time.

The Harriers have an annual January Scavenger Hunt Challenge to keep motivation in the cold, dark month. It consists of 31 different challenges and ranges from running your furthest from the previous year to running in fancy dress. One of the challenges was to support at the Romsey 5 or marshal at the local parkrun.

Being part of a club also gives you the opportunity to run the iconic London Marathon. For anyone interested in running, go to halterworthharriers.org to find out more about the club.
