SIR: Mark Cooper is right about Hants County Council’s attitude to its council taxpayers (Romsey Advertiser, October 22).
I recently wrote to the Highways Department about the juggernauts using Palmerston Street and The Hundred as a short cut to Alma Road instead of using the slightly longer Ring Road route.
Effectively their reply dismissed any interest in the problem or properties that are being damaged by 44 tonne lorries trundling past their houses all the time. Apparently, their interest would only be piqued if there was a fatality. I don’t think my question was unreasonable, why was the ring road built if it wasn’t to stop the traffic using the town roads?
