A cat, which was going to be put down, was rescued by a business owner near Romsey.

Broadlands Lakes owner Debbie Beale rescued a savannah cat called Cleo after she saw her story on Facebook and made contact with the place she was kept.

Debbie said: “She was a failed breeding cat so she was going to be put down because she was just a drain on their resources. Other than that, she never had any purpose in life, she had never been outside. Apparently she wasn't interested in males, but she did manage to get pregnant.

“But then she had complications and they had to do an emergency caesarian and she lost the kittens.

“She had never really interacted with humans expect for them feeding her. She had never lived indoors because she was in a cattery pen. She was just so scared of everything.”

After Cleo had been collected, she was taken to Broadlands Lakes where she has space to run around.

Debbie said: “We've got lots of anglers around and lots of cats we take from Cats Protection in Southampton. They know they will be safe with us because we have lots of people around to see them and the get fed regularly, but they are still able to do their own thing and live free.

“We have various cat homes all around the Broadlands Lakes. We have about 36 feral cats that live on the land.”

Broadlands lakes clubhouse is in Calmore and has a cafe and fishing areas.
