A care home in the heart of Romsey had a special gift for its nurses this International Nurses Day.

Marie Louise House, which supports residents with nursing, dementia and end-of-life care, presented its nursing team with flowers and chocolates to thank and recognise their valuable work.

The Newton Lane home has a team of 12 nurses who head up and lead personalised care for residents, many of whom have complex needs.

Susan Arquier, home manager said: “It’s an honour to be able to thank our hardworking team on International Nurses Day.

"Over the last two years especially, nurses have shown how they are the lifeblood of our society. Our nurses are continuously developing their practice and receive specialist training in areas such as dementia and end of life care as well as being actively involved in research and supporting and mentoring student nurses.

“Our specialist nursing team means we are one of very few homes in the Romsey area which can offer a “home for life” for residents. Our nursing team is equipped with a wide range of skills to care for complex needs, including dementia and end of life care. This reduces the need for hospital admissions and allows residents to be settled in their home without the need to move when their care needs become more complex.

Deepa Malcolm, the dementia care unit manager said: “It’s wonderful to have our hard work recognised. Despite the challenging nature of our work, we have real job satisfaction and are proud to have such a direct impact on so many people’s lives. International Nurses Day is a wonderful way to appreciate the value of what we offer.”

International Nurses Day was held on May 12 and recognises the work of nurses who make a difference to the lives of people in their communities.
